Do I keep my Facebook current page or start over?

Branding & Marketing

Do I keep my current Facebook page or start over?

I hear this a lot.

“I have this Facebook page I started months or years ago, and it’s dead. Do I keep my Facebook current page or start over?”

They want to jump back into Social Media Marketing and are not sure what to do or where to start.

You’ll probably start asking around, researching online and asking their dear friend Google what to do. Now they are more confused than before.

Does this sound familiar in your quest to sell more of your products and services online?

Well. I have good news. The answer to this is actually straightforward.

Ask yourself this one question, and you will have your answer:

Does my current page have my target market following it?

Yep. It’s that easy.

Do your current fans and followers want what your selling?

To answer this, you must first narrow down your ideal client. Make sure you know who this person is inside out and backward.

Need help with this step? My Workshop walks you through how you define this person/customer. It makes all the difference in building a great Facebook that helps your business.

The best thing about Facebook is you get to pick exactly who sees your page and who you market to. This is so much better than 10 years ago when you paid for that billboard and hundreds or thousands of non-customers drove by and saw it.

Social Media marketing is great cause you to get to target those who want what you sell. At such a better rate, or even free if you know what you’re doing online.

It’s that simple to figure out if you should keep your current Facebook page or start over.

Now what? Here are a few options:

You have determined your page is NOT your audience.

No worries. It’s ‘fixable’ or better stated, you have a few options.

  • You can archive the Facebook page (so no one can post on it, but followers can still see the page content).
    • If you choose this option, but still would like some of your followers, be sure to post a graphic or new cover photo directing them to the new page.
  • You can ask Facebook to delete it. (It will be gone FOREVER) So be sure this is what you really want.

Let’s say it IS your current audience.

Awesome. This will be easier, but you still have a few options.

  • Let’s say it’s your target audience but the page name is not right. This is simple.
    • Change the name. At the time of this post, you can add the new name to the old one. About 12 days later (give or take a week) you can delete the old name, leaving the new name. Yes, it does take a few steps but will be worth it.
  • Make sure all the info and settings are up-to-date on your page. Facebook needs to read the text on these sections to know who to show your page to. You’ll want to leave the fluff wording out. Be direct on what you offer so the computer brains know exactly what you offer.

People often spend too much time on worrying “Do I keep my current Facebook page or start over?”

And as you can see, it’s simple.
