The saying “Don’t judge a book by its cover,” just isn’t realistic. Because WE DO judge the book by its cover. That’s why I have a job. Actually, my daily motto here in my home office could be: Get it done and make it pretty. Why? Because hardly anyone wants to pick-up a book with an ugly cover. Right?
What is Graphic Design?
Graphic design is the process of visual communication and problem-solving using one or more of typography, photography and illustration. (credit From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
This conversation always makes me smile, and this happened to me at an appointment again this week…
Non-Graphic Designer person: “What do you do for a living?”
ME: “I’m a graphic designer.”
Non-Graphic Designer person: “Nice…”
…….. moment of awkward silence …….
Non-Graphic Designer person: “So, does that mean you decorate people houses?”
…….. internal laugh …….
Me: “Nope, that’s interior designer. I create visual stuff: Logos, brochures, digital graphics, stuff like that.”
After over 20 years of doing this freelance graphic design gig, that conversation never gets old. I love my job, so, it’s always fun to talk about it.
I’ve been designing print jobs since the mid-1990s. Crazy to think it’s been that long. Maybe cause this job is what makes me happy, so it doesn’t feel like work.
I am blessed to be able to wake up each day and do what I love. Yes, some days in my PJs. At Least until my first cup of coffee is gone. Or two.
Being a freelance graphic designer rarely feels like work for me as I tackle convention promotional items, directories, ads, newsletters and online graphics, and marketing for small businesses (just to name a few on today’s list).
One major roll in my daily success is probably because my clients are great and easy to work with on so many levels.
I’m happy you stopped by my blog to check in. Maybe we can work together?
Browse around and feel free to email me with any questions about any graphic design projects you might have on your to-do list!
Friendly Regards,
~Chelly
